The estate and the wine |
|
|
Hannes Storm is a leading name in South African wine, working with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on the limestone and granite soils of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, just 120 km from Cape Town. This ultra-boutique, high-precision estate is deeply inspired by the Burgundian model—in its approach to site selection, exacting élevage, and tiny production volumes.
The style is just as refined: pure, elegant, and meticulously crafted. A hidden gem for lovers of truly great wines. |

Sourced from granite-rich parcels in the northern part of the valley, the 2021 Ignis Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Pinot Noir Red is a focused, energetic wine with beautiful balance. Elegant notes of black cherry, raspberry, and rose intertwine with subtler hints of orange peel and tea, creating a layered aromatic profile.
The structured tannins—shaped by aging in French oak barrels—provide depth and grip, delivering a Pinot Noir that’s both refined and full of character. A remarkably savoury, expressive wine.
Rated 94+/100 by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and 96/100 by James Suckling. |
