Clos Joliette is a legend of Jurançon, an extremely rare and precious wine. This tiny 1.5-hectare amphitheater of century-old petit manseng produces a confidential yield each year: just five barrels, each becoming a different expression of the vintage, with sugar levels ranging from dry to lusciously sweet.

Owner Michel Renaud always cultivated his independence, even stepping away from the appellation, which cost Clos Joliette its official “Clos” designation. Yet the wine remained mythical, released in drops and poured at the most prestigious Michelin-starred tables. Jean-Claude Berrouet, who crafted Petrus for over 40 years, called it “the quintessence of an exceptional terroir,” while Bertrand de Lur Saluces considered it on par with his Château d’Yquem.

In 2015, Lionel Osmin, a passionate defender of the South-West’s greatest terroirs, took over from Michel Renaud. To mark the transition, he organized a historic tasting of 19 vintages of Clos Joliette, from 1993 to 2013, all of which had never left the domaine’s cellars. Fourteen seasoned tasters were invited, including our two sommeliers, Olivier Poussier and Christian Martray.

These collector’s wines have since been authenticated and are now released in 24 limited editions, presented in wooden cases of six bottles, each case holding six different vintages.

Edition No. 7 comprises just 300 cases worldwide. The bottles come directly from the estate, labeled and wax-sealed to indicate their sweetness level: green for dry, yellow for demi-sec, orange for moelleux or liquoreux.
